The way the society goes...

I had spent some time with the Lord recently thinking about the issues of the social development in the world. I thought if there are any indications of God’s heart and will in the way the modern society is developing and existing today?
For some reason other than the accident He has allowed us to enjoy what the modern people call democracy. And while understanding that no human system is a perfect one I ask myself: “Is there anything in modern democracy that actually reflects the Lords desire and heart for man?”
These are my findings:
- Democracy offers the opportunity to obey/disobey the leader you have elected (the same way as it is in our relationships with Christ).
- The freedom to live, think and choose to love or hate, believe or not believe and be personally responsible for your choice.
- The equality of rights for both men and women (in the ideal). It is more like the way God treats people talking about the fact that everyone is equal before him irregardless of their race or social status, nationality or citizenship.
- Private property rights protection. This is very much like the way the Israeli society was set up with every one having his portion of land and property given to him and the system working in such a way that even your own misfortune could not take away your inheritance of your land from you forever.
- The guarantee of the justice in your wages – you can work and actually be rewarded for your efforts. (These are two biblical principles that I can think of, that are actually reflected in our society: the one who is not working let him not eat; and the worker is worthy of his pay).
- The protection of a person irregardless of his physical disabilities or limitations. The equality of opportunities.
- The globalization – sounds to me like there is much more unity in the world with the only division on the political level existing between the democratic and non democratic countries. I am not necessarily arguing for the globalization here, but what we obviously can not miss is that we became more acquainted with the issues in the world as the whole and the foreign countries are becoming less and less foreign to us. All of this reflects the missionary heart of our God who always had the whole world in mind whether talking about his love or about His Great Commission.
The Bible says that He has created everything in such a way so we may seek him. And while we are enjoying the benefits of the modern democracies let’s not forget the One who has given it all for our enjoinment, and be thankful to Him.
